's Success Story
Thanks Jimi for taking me to the next level in a short 45 day I dropped fat, gained muscle and mass and figured out what was missing from my workouts. You also gave me nutrition advice regarding food choices. Even though I read a lot about fitness and nutrition, I could not have achieved these results without you.
Jimi Varner has made a tremendous impact in my overall training for health and fitness. His insightful knowledge of exercise and nutrition has been a great motivational tool. I have always been very fitness conscious but Jimi helped to get me to the next level. I still have a long way to go but I feel that I’m on the right track with his personal training program.
My name is Jayson Torres. I am a 36 year old Tennis Pro at the Sports Club of Novi. I am also the Director of Tennis at Walnut Creek Country Club. It has been over15 years since my competitive days of college tennis. As years went buy, I accepted the fact that my training days were behind me. I truly believed this. Other than playing tennis in my lessons, I did not exercise otherwise.
I really let myself go. I was not taking care of myself. I would eat anything and everything. I was eating fast food a couple times a week. I was not exercising other than playing in my lessons. During this time, I let my 5 foot 7 inch frame balloon up to 189 lbs. My health was at my lowest. My physical appearance was in no way indicative of a Tennis Pro. Even though I had the knowledge of the game, who would want to take a lesson from a fat Tennis Pro. I was supposed to lead by example as an athlete not as an overweight has been. Who can I inspire anyone looking like this? I was embarrassed. How can I can be the best father I can be? I couldn’t even take care of myself. If I keep letting myself go down this path, I would be setting a poor example for my daughter. I want to grow old and healthy and watch my daughter raise her own kids. I know I am young but I was heading down the wrong path. I remember this day well. It was a week before Thanksgiving 2007. I made the decision to make the change and keep my promise.
I knew I needed guidance in order to achieve my goals. This is where Jimi Varner came into the picture. Over the years, I have hired and fired Jimi as my trainer numerous times. I came to him and asked for his help. Jimi made it easy for me. He told me I didn’t let my body get to this point overnight. I must take a slow steady path to my goals. He put me on a 30 minute full body workout three times a week. By setting these small goals of working out 30 minutes 3 days a week, set the ground work. I should be able to set aside this much time. Instead of watching the scale and the pounds, he stressed this is the wrong goal. My goal should be to complete my workout every week. My weight would be secondary.
After the first six weeks, I really started to see some results. In the back of my mind, I wondered what would happen if I changed my nutrition. Jimi came through again. We went over basic nutrition guidelines. It was not a diet. He just educated me on how to eat, when to eat, and what to eat. I went from eating twice a day to eating 6 times a day. He educated me on portion sizes and the dangers of yo- yo dieting and fad diets. During this phase, I would bug Jimi and talk nutrition with him whenever I got a chance. He never turned me down with all my questions. Trust me. I had a ton of questions.
In order to keep my fire going, Jimi would change up my routine every 4-6 weeks. He would incorporate split body part weight lifting, HITT training, steady state cardio, undulated weight training, EDT circuits, full body workouts with many compound movements, and his very own METACARDIO. By changing it up, I know look forward to working out.
If I had a question or a concern, he would e-mail me or call me. I felt like I was his only client. I know this is far from true. Jimi has many clients but treats everyone with much attention to detail. This comes very natural for him because his passion to help people.
With Jimi’s guidance and kind words, Jimi has inspired me to live a healthier life style. I have truly made a life style change. I can not thank him enough for what he has done for my quality life.
Changed for Life,
- Jayson Torres
PS After about 16 months, I am lean and mean and about 32 lbs. lighter. I am back to my college weight but stronger. More importantly“. I am happy with myself and my life.
My name is Carol Lamb and I have been a client of Jimi Varner for almost eight years. He has helped me lose approximately 110 pounds. My story started when I was a child, I was always the fat chubby girl who no one ever wanted to pick for his or her team. In high school I was on the varsity tennis team but I was still overweight. I just couldn’t keep the weight off for any long periods of time. In my twenties I got married and still I wasn’t at my ideal weight even though I lost twenty pounds for the big day. After I was married, I ballooned up to 250 plus pounds after giving birth to my son. I wanted to be a mom that was fit and in shape, one that my son could be proud of, so I went looking at our local gym for a trainer.
I had a trainer but she quickly decided that working in a gym wasn’t for her so I was still looking for the perfect trainer. I hired another trainer but she was just too mean for me and I didn’t like being called names and feeling worse about myself after spending $85.00 an hour. I had always seen Jimi working with his clients in the gym but was too embarrassed to approach him about working with me. Jimi actually started working with my husband first and then I would join their sessions to see how well I liked working with him. One of the things that attracted me to Jimi, as a trainer, was he was in shape and I liked that he motivated his clients to better themselves without harassing them.
For that first training session I had with Jimi I have never once thought about hiring another trainer. He is absolutely amazing. He took me from a size 20 to 2. He is always well prepared and knowledgeable about the latest and greatest techniques. He prepares and plans our sessions ahead of time so as not to waste any valuable training time. He motivates and pushes me to my limits each session and I owe the wonderful shape that I am in to Jimi. I am so proud of Jimi and myself for helping me get to my goal weight and fitness condition.
Jimi has never once given up on me, even when I wanted to give up myself. Thanks to Jimi I have been able to keep the weight off for several years now. I wouldn’t have been able to keep the weight off and feel as successful as I do without Jimi.
- Carol Lamb
A little over four years at the turn of the millennium and my fiftieth birthday looming, I began thinking about goals. Looking around at people my age, I saw their health problems creeping up and stress taking front stage in their lives. It seemed important to set
priorities as well as goals so I would not be caught in their health trap.
As a youth, I was an active sports participant, but through the years, that had faded. I wanted to start to take control of my health, yet I knew that I needed an approach that would work for me at my age. I
needed direction as well as accountability. On the recommendation of a trainer at my health club, she said Jimi was the fit for me. From that time on, Jimi has been my health accountant. He has managed my program to improve strength, decrease body fat, increase cardiovascular fitness and all the time keep me consistent and motivated.
Jimi’s approach to training is fundamental, professional and effective. I look forward to my training because I know he is dedicated to success and shares the same excitement with success as I do. His program is always fresh and is designed to motivate as well as achieve long-term goals.
Well, four years later, I have lost 20 pounds and increased my HDL cholesterol to 70 with a ratio of 3.13(!). My body fat percentage is down from 24 to 19 and my strength is at an all time high. With Jimi’s motivation and guidance, I have completed my first marathon, a life long goal! Thank you, Jimi for being a changing force in my life, a great coach and a sincere friend!

I wanted to touch base with you regarding my pregnancy workouts! Everything is going great. On Friday I am going to be 15 weeks pregnant and I have only gained 3.5 pounds. I feel so much better this time around and I know a lot of it is because I am not dragged down feeling huge and pregnant.

I made my first appointment with Jimi Varner based on a friend’s recommendation. I was already acquainted with Jimi because I was aregular at the workout facility where Jimi trains his clients. Although I perceived myself at the time as being athletic and in decent shape, I guarded my workouts against a bad back and was on the verge of quietly slipping into a semi-flabby, middle-aged existence.
Jimi’s spirit and enthusiasm immediately ignited me to take my health more seriously. He encouraged me to go on a program of smart eating and exercise that would transform my body and self image. Early on I remember telling him, “Jimi I’d better not do that because of my back“, and he would just smile and encourage me to give it a try.
Before long I was shedding fat and gaining muscle faster than I ever believed I could. My friends and family were amazed. The positive feed back and Jimi’s creative workout plans fed me to keep going. My back became strong and my confidence was sky high. After 4 months, I decided to tackle my life long goal of running a marathon. Jimi had run the same marathon the year before. He guided me with a training schedule, diet advice and most of all, his positive encouragement.
I can’t explain the pride (and gratitude) that I felt when I crossed that finish line with my family and loved ones watching.
Three years after that first appointment, I am healthier now at age 45 then I have ever been in my entire adult life. I play hockey, lift weights, run regularly, eat well and try my best to be a healthy example to my 3 children. Jimi Varner is a shining beacon for anyone lost in the storm of unhealthy living. He cares deeply about helping others to be their best. His knowledge and passion for his trade is second to no one.

This past Monday (and the again on Wednesday) I had my first sessions with my trainer Jimi at the gym, and I have to say that he’s awesome. I had worked with a trainer there when I first joined and she showed me the basics.. how to work the machines, how to stretch, that sort of thing. She was nice, and taught me a lot, but I wasn’t really impressed..especially because it cost around $60 an hour! (yes a dollar a minute!)
This guy however.. the whole training experience is totally different then my first trainer. He’s motivating, inspiring, outgoing and funny, and I actually look forward to working out! He doesn’t just show me how to do an exercise then go talk with some other people while I work on it. He’s right there, telling me what I’m doing well, helping me count and just giving me tips on what to eat and exercise and just everything in general!
He even answers my questions and reviews what I eat and what cardio I do through email. It’s definitely worth every penny! If you live in theSE Michigan area and want to get in shape, I really recommend this guy!

I have read through most of your book. You have brought a new element to weight loss I would have never considered before. Personally, for me, your focus on fitness is a complete one that I am still mastering, empowering simple techniques with repetition, focus and faith.
I have accomplished so much since knowing you, by applying your lessons and maintaining that single focus. So many times in the past I was unsuccessful and now I am finding new strength everyday to go beyond what I thought would ever be possible for me. I tend to look at our gift of life as a beautiful tapestry, each of us a single thread, no strand is the same yet each strand supporting the other to make a tremendous work of art. It is so important to realize that if one strand is missing or begins to fray a beautiful work of art may be lost forever.
I thank God for the thread known as Jimi Varner. I rarely have an opportunity to truly say to someone that they made a difference in my life but you did to mine. Thank you! He knew what he was doing when he created you my friend, my mentor. Congratulations, I wish you all the blessings a man could ever have. God Bless!

I just came from a physical yesterday. The timing could not be better.
The Dr. says:
1. I have 30% more lung capability then the average male of my age (52).
2. Resting heart beat of 50.
3. Blood pressure 120/85. The 85 too high but I am fighting my bad genes on that one. The Dr. says “It would be terrible if you didn’t exercise at the rate you do”.
4. PSA (from blood) reduced from 2.0 to 1.5
5. Cholesterol @ 158, with 43 HDL and 104 LDL with ratio 3.43.
6. Flexibility improved over last physical.
7. Weight down from 218 to 184.
I was so pumped up that I told the nurses on the way out that the doctor recommended that I have no reason to ever see him again

When I first made the commitment to begin working out, I was unsure and apprehensive about what to do. That all changed when I began training with Jimi.
Jimi designed fantastic fitness programs that not only met my immediate goals but also kept me pushing to reach for that next personal best level. He’s an awesome motivator and a terrific coach. I’m now in the best shape of my life““..thanks Jimi !
- Carol Ryan
I am religiously doing the workouts. It’s exciting, because I am starting to hear thing from family and co-workers on my weight loss. It’s a nice feeling to know that some program is finally working for me! Plus I have so much more energy. I know how busy you are, but I wanted to drop you a line to tell you that you are so appreciated. Have a great day!

Working with Jimi Varner as my personal trainer for over 4 years, I have not only appreciated his new and innovative workouts with outstanding results, but his vast wealth of knowledge in the ever changing fitness and nutrition industry.
I have consistently noticed that with every “new” diet or fitness program that comes along, I already have an understanding of it’s effectiveness, or lack there of, as a result of my work with Jimi. Jimi’s comprehensive understanding of diet and exercise, along with a commitment to his own continuing education in the field, adds up to the excellence in the services he provides and the literature he produces. Thanks for all you do Jimi!
- Janet Thurber
I had been weight training for years, with middling success. I had seen many trainers, and had paid a few for their services, but Jimi Varner sets himself apart from the rest. He has helped me improve, and helped me meet my goals.
The difference is that Jimi LISTENS and seeks to understand my lifestyle.
He then helps create a training plan that I can live with (father of two young kids, long work hours), and ultimately succeed with.
On separate times, I had set goals for body fat and weight loss.
Together, Jimi and I developed a program that challenged me and motivated me to meet a realistic goal.
I succeeded–but more than that, Jimi did as well. I enjoy sharing these successes with Jimi and he does with me, as well. I would recommend anyone who has the chance to partner with Jimi Varner to do so.
- Jim Mulhern
Working out with Jimi Varner has been a wonderful experience. I would highly recommend him to anyone, especially someone that shares a passion and enthusiasm for exercise, like Jimi.
I have been working with Jimi for a few years, and in that time he has provided me with a great deal of knowledge, as well as some great programs that have helped me to progress to my goals. I can tell you that those programs have never been boring. He constantly challenges me, and no matter what particular goal I may have, he always has something that will help me get there.
If you are interested in working
with Jimi, ask yourself this question: Do I want to work with someone who is, not only a great person, but great at what he does, and will help me think “out of the box” while constantly achieving my goals?
My answer is “YES!”
- Gordy Marcotte
I finished your book last night and I was really impressed. Other “diet” books focus on the physical, psychological and social aspects of losing weight, but for whatever reason they completely miss
the spiritual. I think I mentioned before that I’m a little of a “control freak”.
Your book helped me realize that I should trust in something other then just myself for once! It’s refreshing to know that I can let go of the worry and obsession about what I can or can’t eat, and just have my portion. I’ll be working hard to trust in God and in myself that I can truthfully determine what my portion is. I’m hoping both of you can help me with this

Exciting news! My jeans that I told you about now fit great! And, I tried on the other jeans that I have not been able to even zip up, now fit!
Yeah man, I am wearing my Marc Jacob Capri’s and I love to wear them, cause I will never buy another pair!
All thanks to YOU!
- Too embarrassed to tell:)
