Susan's Success Story
Recently, 101 LIVE client, Susan Nash, reached a major milestone in her fitness journey. Here is her story, written in January 2012:
"I started fitness training with Kelly Bowers 10 months ago because I knew my exercise and eating habits were non-existent and I needed a total renovation. I did not even want to look at the scales, but more importantly, I was unhealthy and knew it. My age -- 60 -- both defeated me and inspired me. I did not want to live the rest of my life this way since I knew I was the steward of the body God had given me and I had not taken very good care of it. I wanted to take responsibility and finish well."
"I had done it before, so I knew it could be done, but I also knew that I had lapsed and the result was worse than it ever before. When I made this decision, I knew it would mean a radical change in my thinking, my eating, my schedule. I was ready for it!"
"I needed a guide. It is very confusing to know what exactly is best for your body because there is conflicting advice and so many programs. I really didn't want a program; I wanted a lifestyle. That began in my thinking, but translated into action when I began personal training at 101 LIVE with Kelly."
"She met me where I was -- terribly overweight. She worked with me to help me understand why we were doing the kind of exercises we were. She challenged me without endangering the hip, back and knee problems that I brought into the equation. I worked out with her 3 days a week in personal training. My strength started increasing and as it did, she challenged me deeper."
"She did not weigh or measure me for a while which was the right thing for me. I began to see results, in my weight, for sure, but my energy began to be restored. She added cardio homework for me to do the days I was not in the studio. I was working out 6 days a week in some capacity. I began to feel better, look better, have a lot of energy and was able to do things I previously could not."
"Along with the exercise, Kelly began to talk to me about eating. She introduced me to My Fitness Pal which tracks what you eat and lets you know based on your own goals what a balanced diet looks like in terms of protein, fat and carb intake. She worked with me to know within the normal categories, what my body type, in particular, needed and I adjusted with incredible results."
"To date, I am about halfway to my goal. It has been slow, but it has been solid growth and the constancy to change a deep rut in my life. I am eating healthy and exercising daily. I am more conscious of how I use my body to my advantage without putting undue stress on my back. My commitment, Kelly’s knowledge, guidance and encouragement have all been essential for my success. I don’t feel lost anymore when I enter a gym or afloat when it comes to making food choices. My body is a vessel out of which my soul lives and sets the course of my life. My choices are broader today because I am taking care of this vessel. My friends and family have really noticed and appreciate the changes, but more importantly I know I am living better and I feel great! My outlook on life is more positive, Eric Liddell, a Scottish Olympic runner whose life is depicted in Chariots of Fire, once said, 'I believe God made me for a purpose, but he also made me fast. And when I run I feel His pleasure. I sense His smile in what I am doing!'"
