Brian's Success Story
I have always enjoyed cooking and dining, and often this included a lot of foods that I knew were not the healthiest. As a result, I not only gained weight, but discovered that my cholesterol had risen to the point where I needed to take medication on a daily basis to keep it under control. Even attempts to reduce and eliminate cholesterol from my diet did not seem to have much of an effect. A side effect of the medication was that it caused inflammation in my joints and made exercising even more of a challenge. As my physical activity declined, my cholesterol levels and weight increased. I entered the Biggest Winner Contest at Snap Fitness of Medford because I thought that it would be a fun way to motivate myself to get into better shape, and break out of this unhealthy cycle.
On the first day of the contest after weighing in, Sue Singer calculated my Body Mass Index and confirmed that I was overweight to the point of obesity on the BMI scale. I asked her if she could help get me into shape, and she warned me that it was going to take a lot of hard work. My first training session with her was definitely proof that this was going to be a challenge. Sue started by assessing my level physical fitness, in a workout routine that pushed my physical limits. She measured my strengths, and weaknesses and then formulated a training plan to get me into shape. The next week I was surprised that Sue had developed a personal workout routine for me to follow when I was not training with her. She demonstrated how to perform each exercise, and ensured that I was performing them correctly as well. She explained the number of reps and sets for each exercise and even gave me a set of instructions I could follow when I was working out at Snap Fitness by myself.
Sue also gave me some great advice about what foods would be most beneficial for weight loss and physical fitness. She gave me examples of foods that she ate in order to stay physically fit. One of the first challenges of the competition was for all of us to keep a food diary for a week. This was a great way to help me visualize what I was eating, and how many calories I was consuming on a daily basis. Another challenge involved calculating the amount of water we needed to drink on a daily basis, and drinking that amount for a week. This helped me recognize how much I was under-hydrated and understand the importance of consuming enough water as it relates to weight loss and exercise. Some weeks the challenges were to perform certain daily exercises, and some weeks the challenges were about encouraging us to research and learn physical fitness ideas. All of this was part of Sue's plan to motivate us to stay healthy on daily basis, and I have to say it worked!
Sue continued to challenge me every week during our training session, and every day with her inspirational encouragement and challenges. At the end of 12 weeks, all of her support and encouragement to continue to work hard, resulted in a dramatic weight loss for me. In addition my cholesterol dropped 21 points, and my glycemic levels were reduced by over 75 percent. Sue really helped me to implement a complete lifestyle change. I will continue to plan my meals and workouts, because I learned that this was essential to staying fit. Sue Singer has helped make a dramatic difference my life. I am a much healthier person today because of her!
