Reggie's Success Story
Prior to me starting out at CKO kickboxing and having Joe Virga as my trainer/motivator I was working out at 24 hour fitness at least 5 days a week and for a minimum of two hours a day. I was spending an hour and a half on a mixture of the elliptical, stair climber and treadmill machines plus thirty to 45 minutes lifting weights. While I thought I had a good workout regime at 24 Hour Fitness and was making progress at losing weight by myself, I was not. I found myself putting on more weight. I was doing the same routine day in and day out and I kept increasing the amount of weights I was lifting and the amount of reps I was doing in my routine. Around this time I had to go to see a new doctor for a yearly checkup and he informed me I weighed 310 lbs(the heaviest I had ever weighed) and he strongly suggested that I should have bariatric surgery. I was embarrassed and also mad at myself for getting that heavy I knew I had to do something different because the only time I was losing weight is when I did not go to the gym for a couple of days. I use to eat fast food Mexican food, a couple of doors down from CKO and kept thinking about maybe I should check out the place since they offered a trial class. One day I called CKO and talked to Joe about coming in and trying a trial class and I am still glad to this day I made that decision. I wrote a little on my background so that the following sentences will reflect how Joe has helped me and continues to help me in my weight loss goals.
My first class with Joe was on a Saturday. I did not know what I was getting into but after the first 30 minutes of the hour class I figured out that I was not as healthy as I thought I had been by working out at 24 hour fitness. By the time the class ended I knew I had to sign up as a member because I had never felt this fatigued in the two hours I was working out daily at 24 hour fitness. I think one of the traits of Joe that stuck out to me that first day I had a class with him and since then is that he is sincere in helping me with my weight loss goals. I am not just another member or a paying client, when I walk inside CKO to take his class I feel like Norm from cheers, his greeting to me gets me pumped up for the hour workout I am about to endure. Joe is a motivator. When I feel I do not have anything left in me to keep me going for the rest of the hour I hear him saying “I know you are tired and you don’t think you have anything left but you are stronger then you think you are”. If that does not get me going, he will call me out to get my hands and feet moving faster, he does not let me give anything under a 100 percent effort. When I told Joe I was joining a weight loss contest at work he was intent on making sure I won the contest. Joe gave me suggestions on what to change in my diet to help me lose weight, suggestions on what to snack on to keep me going during the day and during the workouts he would push me a little harder to make sure I gave it my all. I did not win the contest, I came in third place. I went against people that were strictly dieting and starving themselves to lose weight but during those six months under Joe’s guidance my family, friends and coworkers could see the dramatic change in my size. I was not losing weight as fast as my coworkers that were strictly dieting but my clothes were looking looser to the point of looking way to big. My muscles were toning up, I was slimming down, my pants were getting too big on me, and I was getting compliments from everyone on how much I slimmed down. I have had to add extra holes to my belt so that my pants would not fall down while I walking.
Having Joe as my trainer/motivator, I now weigh 258 lbs. My button down shirt size has gone from a 3XL/3XLT to 2XL. My dress shirt size has gone from a 19-36/37 to a 16 ½- 36/37. In April as a gift my fiancé bought me two suits for my birthday. I just recently found out that my suit size has gone from a 54 long in April of this year to a 48 regular by November of this year. Luckily I did not get the suit tailored beforehand. The store had to exchange the suits because there was no way they were going to be able tailor the suit for it to fit me to my current size. My doctor no longer suggest the surgery, he tells me to keep doing what I am doing. When my coworkers, friends and employees at the bank I go to compliment me on my weight loss I make sure they know if it was not for Joe Virga at CKO I would not have been able to do it. When they ask if it is worth going there, I tell them I am the walking billboard on the results you can get by getting trained by Joe at CKO. As I walk out the door after every class Joe always thanks me for coming and taking the class and I always thank him for teaching the class and keeping me motivated. Nothing that I have written above can fully describe Joe as a trainer but the pictures shown below fully shows the results from me being trained by Joe.
