VAL's Success Story
My first Zumba class with Tamra was about two and a half years ago. I was already a member of a gym and working out a couple of times a week, but I dreaded most of my workouts and I wasn't getting much for results. After my first class, I was hooked! I no longer dreaded going to workout if it was Zumba class. In fact, I put the class in my calendar and altered my schedule to make sure I could make it to class.
Honestly, I was a little scared to try Zumba at first because I thought it was a dance class. I have zero dance background other than the ballet classes my mom made me take in elementary school. There is almost always someone in the class laughing at that move she just can't get. After going to class consistently, I found that I knew a lot of the basic moves and I enjoyed the challenge of learning a more difficult song. Tamra does such a great job of introducing new songs to keep things interesting and fun.
The thing I love most about Zumba is the music. We dance to a wide variety of music -- American hip-hop, Latin, and other international beats that I guarantee you won't hear on the radio. It is easy to get lost in the music and let your imagination flow. I always am more relaxed and relieved of tension after a Zumba party session!!
I am also happy to say that I am in the best shape of my life (so far!) and I attribute it to the fun I have in my Zumba workout sessions. I started to crave that feeling after a workout where you know you did your best and used muscles in your body that you haven't known about in a while. Over the past year I've supplemented my Zumba workouts with other things like jogging, biking, and boot camp -- something I never would have imagined two years ago. I've lost weight, my clothes fit better, my stress level is lower, and I love the energy I have to do things with my kids.
