Keri's Success Story
As a current client of Ryan Jacobsen, owner of Focus Fitness, for the past six weeks, I feel compelled to write him a recommendation because I’m so excited to share the results I’ve gotten. I’ve wanted to work with a personal trainer for quite some time. My goals were unoriginal: to lose weight while improving my overall strength and flexibility. The problem was, I just didn’t know where to start. I had a gym membership that I frankly wasn’t using much, and when I was, I was too intimidated to try the free weights or machines, and so I relegated myself to 45-60 minutes on a treadmill or elliptical and then I’d head home. I was bored while I was there and I wasn’t seeing or feeling results anyway, so, over time, I pretty much stopped going.
Then I met Ryan, who invited me to check out one of his group classes. It was a really challenging hour for me! I was definitely out of shape and worried about reinjuring a trouble knee, but I got a lot of personal attention and Ryan was knowledgeable about how to tailor the exercises to be doable and safe for my limitations. After the class, I was pretty sore, but I was excited about exercise for the first time in a long time, so I was hooked and began working out with Ryan in a combination of group and one-on-one settings 4 times per week.
I’m so glad I did and here’s why.
Accelerated progress – If I had kept working out on my own, just doing more of the same thing
I was already doing, I might have made progress eventually, but it wouldn’t have been this fast.
My family, friends, and coworkers have all noticed big changes even in this relatively short time, which has inspired them to adopt healthier lifestyles, and several of them have even started working with Ryan too.
Nutrition support – Ryan understands the best way to get results is not just to work hard in the gym, but also to take care of your body in the kitchen too. I appreciated that he didn’t propose a one-diet-fits-all-clients, ultra-restrictive, and hard-to-follow eating plan. He listened to my goals and tailored an eating plan for me to meet them.
Learning – In addition to the training and nutrition support, Ryan has introduced me to documentaries, articles, and books so I can research areas that are of particular interest or importance to me. He has so much knowledge beyond what I expected about why and how certain exercises or eating habits have the effect that they do. He’s encouraged me to keep learning about my body, nutrition, and fitness and I think doing that is helping me make these changes a permanent fixture in my life.
Fun – Training with Ryan is seriously a lot of fun! We haven’t done the same workout twice and that variety keeps me challenged mentally and physically. The group classes are great for meeting supportive workout buddies and the one-on-one sessions are perfect for learning new exercises, improving form, and targeting the areas I want to improve. His personal style keeps me motivated and makes my time in the gym just fly by.
So, a big thank you goes to Ryan for giving me the tools to help me set and meet my fitness goals. I’d recommend him as a trainer to anyone, no matter your current fitness level if you’re just not quite sure how to get to where you want to go next...
