Lisa & all of the Fitness Professionals at YPB

Favorite Healthy Meal: The pancakes found in Eating for Life by Bill Phillips modified slightly by adding 2 tsp of vanilla, more cinnamon, a small handful of walnuts (occasionally), and a pinch of sea salt.

Favorite Free Day Food: Tres Leches Cake

Toughest Eating Obstacle Overcome: I have the most difficult time handling the “why” I eat more than my body needs. I must be careful to identify “head hunger” vs real hunger and eat accordingly.

Current Exercise Routine: I do resistance/flexibility/balance workout twice a week for 1 hour and 20/30 minutes of interval cardio training 3 days per week.

Favorite Benefit of This Lifestyle: It is truly amazing how well my body works when I eat in a way to support it and exercise in a way to keep in toned and functional. I am not one who enjoys exercise. I am one who can feel the difference and am addicted to the feeling of good health. While I have a shoulder which sometimes bothers me and two aging knees, I keep myself toned and fit, minimizing how those issues affect my life. I have also been able to stop taking medications to control blood pressure and acid reflux as well as maintaining great bone density. My doctor is amazed.

Client Success Fitness Questionnaire

Name: Marcia Keener

Age: 62

Occupation: Wellness Coach, Personal Trainer, Human Resources Manager

How long have you lived in Corpus Christi? Over 30 Years

Are you married? Married to Rick Keener

Do you have children? (If so please include children’s names and ages) I have two step sons: Ben/29 and Brien/35

2. What is your fitness routine? I do resistance/flexibility/balance workout twice a week for 1 hour and 20/30 minutes of interval cardio training 3 days per week.

3. Who is your role model? My role model is client, Bob Fancher who shows me what is possible as I age.

4. What is your favorite form of exercise? None. Seriously, I enjoy the effects and benefits of exercise much more than I enjoy actually exercising. I feel great, have more energy and find that my body works so well when I exercise. If I must select a favorite, I prefer resistance training and working on the stability ball for core development.

5. Do you have a workout buddy? I work out with my best friend. We keep each other on track and push each other to work as hard as we can.

6. How long have you exercised regularly? For 7 years.

7. What is your favorite health food? The pancakes found in Eating for Life by Bill Phillips. Rick and I eat them every Saturday morning and love them. They are nutritious, satisfying and are enjoyed by any guests who might be visiting on Saturdays.

8. What is your must-have piece of gear? Vibrams and my Gymboss.

9. What is your health and fitness advice? Emerging science tells us that we do not have to age as our parents and grandparents did. Keeping good muscle tone and good cardio health will protect you from losing muscle mass and bone density as you age. We need to age gracefully and keep our blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol in check.

10. What is your best health or fitness achievement? I am now at 24 % body fat which puts me in my normal range for heart health for the first time since I began this journey.

11. What is your current health or fitness goal? I would like to get down to 22% body fat and maintain that goal.

12. What is your biggest pet peeve at the gym? People who do not re-rack weights and pick up after themselves.

13. What sport would you like to try? Sky diving.

14.What is your favorite health or fitness book/cookbook? Eating for Life. In addition to the pancakes, try the shrimp scampi. Eating well does not have to be boring.

15.What is your biggest challenge when it comes to eating right or working out? I have the most difficult time handling the “why” of what I eat more than my body needs. I must be careful to eat mindfully rather than mindlessly. I always eat more when I am not paying any attention to my meal. I grew up in the “clean your plate” era and many of my best memories and current activities center around eating. Consequently, I am intentional now about how I enjoy those favorite foods and celebrations. In addition, I find I have a tendency to think I am hungry when I am stressed, bored, tired, upset, etc. I must be careful to identify “head hunger” vs real hunger and eat accordingly.

16.How would you spend $100 earmarked for health and fitness? I would buy another pair of Vibrams

17.What is the most exotic locale where you have worked out? I don’t recall any exotic work out location.

18.What music do you listen to while working out? I do not listen to music. When I work out I am focusing on my work out and find music distracting.

19.What is your most embarrassing workout moment? The time I jumped on the Bosu which slid out from under me. I landed on my ass on the gym floor.

20.What has been your strangest workout experience? None I can recall.

21. What do you think is the best benefit of working out or eating right? It is truly amazing how well my body works when I eat in a way to support it and exercise in a way to keep in toned and functional.
