Patti Melton's Success Story
Patti has been weight training with me for over nine months and has made tremendous gains in strength and muscle density. She competed in her figure show May, 2012 and placed 5th in the open division. Congrats Patti!!
What made you decide to compete and prepare in your first figure show? What is the hardest part so far?
I wanted to prove to myself that I had the determination and focus to adhere to a disciplined workout and diet regimen and that hopefully at the end of the 12 weeks of prep, I would be able to walk out on that competition stage feeling confident and looking like I belonged out there with the other competitors. I really feel like this process has been more a competition with myself than preparing to compete with other women. I hope I am also setting an example for my daughter and grandchildren that regardless of your age, with hard work and determination you can accomplish your goals. The hardest part was putting on the competition suit for the first time and looking in the mirror – it was a very humbling experience! Although the competition diet is stricter than I am used to, I have adapted to it pretty well but I confess that during the week, I think a lot about what I am going to have for my “cheat” meal on Saturday evening (my designated “cheat” meal day- at least for one more week)! Last but not least, heavy leg workouts are my nemesis, my least favorite workout but most necessary. I never thought in a million years that at my age (57) I could compete in a figure competition but with Kim’s encouragement, inspiration and butt kicking workouts, it’s been an exciting journey so far! She makes me feel like I can accomplish any fitness goal I set for myself and at the end of our workouts, I truly feel like a “Strong Girl”!
