Heather's Success Story
Back pain plagued me through most of the 2002-03 mountain bike season, until one day back spasms and incredible pain left me bed-ridden for over a week. An MRI showed that I had degenerative arthritis in my lower back, in addition to bulging disks--and I was only 24! The doctor prescribed physical therapy, but that didn't help at all. I felt so disappointed that I couldn't ride my bike, and the pain was almost constant. I decided to meet with Ruth Ann. She put me on a program to strengthen my core in hopes of reducing the back pain, and it worked. We met weekly for several months in which she increased the difficultly of the exercises and gave me new and challenging ones to work on. She e-mailed me several times a week to check my progress and see if I had questions. Ultimately, she taught me how to take care of my core and how to feel comfortable in the weight room--a place I'd never been before. I'm now back on the bike and have been competing with great success in 2004. I recommend Ruth Ann to any athlete recovering from an injury or looking to improve core strength.
