Abby K.'s Success Story
I’m getting married!! Yippee!! I was so excited! New Year’s Eve 2010, my husband proposed! I could not wait to start the planning“the venue, the food, the flowers“.the dress! Uh oh! I looked in the mirror, how did I let this happen?! The weight had just crept on and on and on! When I was 12 years old I was diagnosed with severe scoliosis and needed surgery to correct a 68% curvature of my spine. Today I live with two metal rods and multiple screws down both sides of my spine with a 10-15% curvature. I have never been an active person. I never really thought I could be with a back like mine. So, with no physical activity that was a recipe for weight gain and an overall unhealthy lifestyle. Well, I knew I had to do something! So January 1, 2011 what a great New Year’s Resolution“get fit and lose weight for my wedding! With my doctor’s approval, I started out the first month working out on my own. I lost a couple pounds, but I knew I was not going to be satisfied with myself by the time August rolled around at this pace! I found a personal trainer in the area and started going. Again, after a couple months, I was not getting the results I wanted. What was I going to do!? So, I switched things up and a friend of mine referred me to Sybil! Over the next few months, I trained with Sybil one-on-one and also joined her group training sessions three days a week. It was hard work, but I loved it and the results started coming! I felt like I had more energy, my clothes started to get baggy, it was amazing! Sybil had me doing things I never I never thought I could! In total I lost 25 pounds and 9% body fat! I went from a size 10 to a size 4-6! I got married on August 6, 2011 and looked and felt fabulous! I was loving life! Now that I had reached my goal weight and body fat, I was determined to keep it off! So, after the honeymoon it was time to get back to work! I have continued training with Sybil three times per week! I have been able to keep the weight off and really found something I enjoyed! In January 2012 Sybil formed her running group and I started thinking about joining. Maybe I could do a 5k? Shoot, what I was thinking“I could not even run a mile. Sybil developed a personal running plan for me and each Saturday we would meet as a group for our “long” runs. Slowly, my running distance kept growing! I could not believe it! I was running and I was actually enjoying it! Little did I know that 5 months later I would be finishing my first ever ½ marathon! Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I ran 13.1 miles in 2:17:42! It was the most amazing experience. To look back at where I started in January 2011 is pretty spectacular! Sybil changed how I look at weight loss. It is more than just losing the pounds; it is about developing a healthy lifestyle. I not only lost the fat I wanted, but have gained muscle, I eat healthy and I am doing physical activities today that I never thought I could do! Thank you Sybil!
