Sheena Denscombe

In the beginning...
I was 175lbs when I got married in June 1995. In about a year, I had gained 75lbs without realizing it, I had blossomed into 250lbs.

Depression & Medication...
5 years, my life was affected by serious depression that was only controlled with high doses of medication. While the meds worked for awhile... I wanted to see if there was another way. So, with the help and support of my physician, my husband and my family - I made the decision to slowly take myself off the medication. It was then that I started to introduce physical exercise as a replacement.

Suddenly, I couldn't breathe...
I was laying in bed one night when, suddenly, I couldn't breathe. I was sure I was having a heart attack!

Though I had made the decision to implement exercise into my life, it was then that I truly realized my health was at risk. I knew that the excess weight I was carrying was causing me to feel this way... I needed to make a lifestyle change.

3-2-1?. GO!
The day I started my weight-loss journey!

Finding the right combo...
After many years of different trying the "Quick Fixes" and "Fad Diets", I realized that exercise AND diet need to be in my program - I hired a nutritionist.

I found a passion...
Combining a good nutritional diet and steady exercise I had already lost 15lbs - but I wanted more. At 235lbs, I decided to add running to my exercise program - I was hooked!

My First Marathon!
Three years after I thought I was having a heart attack at 250lbs - I ran my first marathon! I was 40lbs lighter at 210lbs and was keeping it off!

Ups and downs...
I'm no different than anybody else - my weight has fluctuated between 210 lbs to 170 lbs for the past 6 years depending on my activity level and my will-power.

I have always hated clothing shopping and would buy clothes & bring them home to try on. One shopping trip, I bought my usual size 16 pant, brought them home only to find they were "falling off" me. I exchanged them for a size 14... to my surprise, my husband said they still "hung" on me.
Off I went to buy my first pair of size 12 pants in 30 years.
What a feeling!!!

From this date onward...
The journey continues, but this time inspiring others!!!

I love my job! I love my life! I love helping other reach their lifetime goals!

I have been training with Sheena for close to eight months now and I truly enjoy my weekly appointments with her. Sheena makes it a point to train each of her clients to the best of their abilities and adapts exercises to their fitness and health levels. Sheena is not just a personal trainer for me, but she is also a friend - something I didn't expect from a "personal trainer". I definitely would recommend Sheena to anyone looking to improve their fitness, nutrition, and outlook on life.

I have always hated weight training and I thought I could just run it off. Sheena has taught me so much about fitness and nutrition. Each workout is challenging and fun! I always look forward to the workout time and the many laughs with Sheena.

Thank you for your review and comment. I believe laughing is an important part of wellness, in addition to weights. I'm glad I am able to challenge you to get moving!

I am a lazy person – so exercise would not have been my first choice of activities. I had started eating clean early in 2012 and was feeling great, but knew I needed regular exercise. I needed guidance and to learn how to work out effectively.

September of 2012, I joined a co-worker and began a regular twice weekly workout session with Sheena. It’s now February 2013 and I am hooked. We are now meeting 3 times a week for our workouts. Sheena keeps it interesting and I enjoy going. Between personal training sessions and MAT – I feel so much better. Plus it shows in my clothes and shopping is a lot more fun now. Thanks Sheena!!

I have been working out under Sheena's guidance for close to seven months. She makes each session interesting and, while we work hard on exercising a few different muscle groups at a time, it is actually fun ! She has also taken a personal interest in my nutrition and has helped me to figure out a healthier lifestyle.
I look forward to working out 2-3 times per week with Sheena . . . . . Susan Schalin

Thank you for your review and comment. I love how you used the words "lifestyle". Yes, it is a life long learning process.

I first met Sheena last fall when a coworker and I decided we wanted to work out with a personal trainer. I had heard about Sheena through a friend and thought why not contact her to see what she had to say. From the first moment I met Sheena I knew we would be destined to work out together. She was very down to earth and explained that our first meeting was a "meet and greet" to determine if we were compatible moving forward. I loved the fact that she mixed things up each time we met so that my coworker and myself would not get bored with our sessions. What amazes me most is that I look forward to our sessions each week and really enjoy the workouts. She always asks what we want to accomplish, what our goals are, and what areas we want to focus on. She always make sure we are doing the exercises correctly so that injury does not occur. My coworker and I have decided that Sheena will be in our lives for a very long time as we are seeing results and want to keep going. Sheena offers nutrition ideas, healthy tips and keeps everyone inspired to push harder. She is amazing!!!!
