I have been physically active all my life, as a gymnast in my early years, transitioning to groups fitness in my twenties. I am from the aerobic era, watching my Jane Fonda videos, then onto Reeboks Gin Miller step...the Original step program! I married, had three beautiful children and fell off the fitness wagon, so to speak for 10 years...as they grew older, I found more time and became keenly interested in running, cycling and swimming, competing in triathlons and marathons/half marathons, which I still do as part of my fitness regime. I literally stumbled upon Zumba Fitness via a friend and absolutely fell in love with it and it's inclusiveness for people of all levels and abilities. This lit the spark for me to pursue my Can Fit pro group fitness certification and the many Zumba specialties.
Originally, my education journey began in Adapted Physical Education then onto my current career as an Occupational Therapist. I have worked for over 20 plus years in various settings as an OT, working with all ranges of physical and intellectual disabilities. I am pursuing the study of adolescent obesity and intellectual disabilities as a graduate student in the Department of Occupational Therapy at the University of Alberta, with expected graduation 2015.
Additionally I am currently instructing Zumba, AquaZumba, adapted yoga and strength based group fitness, aiming to combine my OT and fitness background to promote health and wellness.
