The client should be able to do whatever does not cause pain. During the healing process, even doing just half the work load for the upper body should help maintain strength gains. A cuff around the elbow area, not on the elbow, should also help.

I would have told her that it depends on her current fitness level; then work to find out what that is.

Another thought is to strengthen the muscles used during breathing. Maybe you could incorporate deep breathing exercises into the routine to help with this.
It will not hurt to go back to fast walking and work up slower to running.

One of the sad truths is that money can be hard to talk about. Also, the old addage, if you must ask then you can't afford it.
I like to know the price to help make the decision, even though I understand that price is only one small part of the solution.
