Denny Pinch

ARLINGTON, VA 22204-4666

Denny Pinch has served as the Assistant Director of Fitness at the Army Navy Country Club Fitness Center since March, 2003. He is a Certified Personal Trainer through ACE, Certified Corrective Exercise Specialist through both NASM and The Biomechanics Method, Certified Golf Fitness Specialist through NASM, Certified Senior Fitness Specialist through NASM, Certified Running Fitness Instructor through ASFA,and Sports Medicine Suspension Training, TRX.

Working one-on-one with members, Denny’s objective is to help each person to achieve their individual fitness goals. He utilizes a combination of the foam roller, Swiss Ball, BOSU, TRX Suspension Training System, dumbbells, Cybex machines, and even furniture sliders to create a variety of interesting, fun, and challenging workout programs to “torture” his clients. He specializes in helping clients to improve their general overall level of fitness, lose weigh utilizing the Biometrics Nutrition and Fitness Program, and prepare people for distance races from ten miles through the marathon.

As a Corrective Exercise Specialist, Denny can perform a movement analysis for his clients to identify the presence of muscle imbalances. He then will design an exercise program to help clients learn to inhibit and stretch over active tight muscles, strengthen under active weak muscles, and teach the muscles to work together properly with integration exercises. The result will be to prevent or reduce pain in areas such as the low back, hips, IT band, knees, foot and ankle, and shoulders.

As a Certified Golf Fitness Specialist, Denny can identify muscle imbalances which inhibit the golf swing and teach exercises to help correct these imbalances. Then he will design an exercise program to help clients improve their golf game by improving flexibility, core strength, balance, and power.

Denny also has many years of experience coaching marathon training programs for several charities in the DC area. An avid runner since high school, he earned varsity letters while competing in both cross-country and track at Hickory Senior High School in Hermitage, Pa. As a senior, he ran in the mile, the two mile, and a leg in the two mile rely. He represented Hickory by running the mile in the Pennsylvania District 10 Track and Field Finals. His personal record for the mile is 4:48 minutes. He continued his running career at Thiel College in Greenville, Pa. Denny was a four-year varsity letterman in cross-country and served as one of the team’s tri-captains during his senior year. He has completed 15 marathons and five half marathons. His personal record for the marathon is 3 hours 42 minutes and his fastest half marathon is 1 hour and 20 minutes. Denny has coached marathon training programs for the Jeff Galloway Marathon Training Program, the National AIDS Marathon Training Program, Strides Against MS Marathon Training Program, TEAM Diabetes Marathon Training Program, and Train to End Stroke Marathon Training Program. Currently, he coaches a ten mile training program for Arlington Thrive in the spring and a 5K training program for Bridges to Independence in the fall.

I have been training with Denny since January 2016. This spring, I have noted that I've had more energy to walk (and carry my golf bag) on the back nine compared to prior spring seasons. I've also been hitting my drives a bit longer and with better control. I plan to continue training with Denny!

I was an active runner and a soccer player before I had a meniscus surgery last summer.
After 3 months of PT (with limited success),I decided to hire a trainer to get me back on track for running and active sports. While others talked at length about how good they are, Denny was to the point and clearly told me within 5 minutes what the plan would be.After a quick assessment,he outlined a program that specifically addresses my problems.
I am already seeing results and posting this recommendation after just 4 sessions.Denny is very patient,he will answer all the questions you may have and also explain why he is prescribing a particular exercise.
A thorough professional, He honestly recommended that I master the prescribed exercises first before moving to the next level.
I strongly recommend that you talk to Denny before deciding on your personal trainer.

I am a 5 time marathon runner with recurring ITBS, and after taking about a year off from running I wanted to get back to the start line! I enlisted the help of Denny to help me develop a strength training program, but after an evaluation and my mention of ITBS, he suggested we start with a corrective exercise program instead. I agreed, am back running, and happy to say that with just a few weeks of doing the program Denny designed for me, I haven't had even the slightest issue with ITBS!

I am an ACSM Certified Personal Trainer and recently started working with an 80 year old client. I posted a question asking for suggestions on ways to help him stretch given his extensive strength and ROM limitations. Denny provided a very extensive initial response which prompted more questions from me. Denny continued to communicate with me providing not only recommendations, but thorough explanations as well. Additionally he reviewed some video of this client for me and responded with additional suggestions including resources and training opportunities. His willingness to freely share his expertise and advice is greatly appreciated and will help me with this client and others. If he can help me this much thru email, I have no doubt that he is an excellent choice for a personal trainer! Thank you Denny.

I am 68 years old, and have recurring back problems -- nothing that needed surgery, but enough to drive me away from running, then from biking, and most recently from golf. I went to Denny with goals of improving overall fitness and getting my golfing life back. He listened carefully and suggested a series of sessions -- three one hour intro sessions, and then 10 thirty minute sessions. I have now been through 6 of those thirty minute sessions. Denny's eye and ear are amazing; he listens and he watches. His judgment about what to work on must be VERY good, because I already feel much stronger through the middle of my body (core, glutes, hips). I can do my 3 mile walk and my 4 mile elliptical machine workout a full minute faster, each of them, without trying harder than before to move fast. Of course I work out on my own on days when I do not see him, and that's a big part of this fast improvement. But he has helped motivate me to do that, because I have seen results so quickly. I will post another review in the spring, when golf season begins!
For now, I am just very grateful for Denny's skill as a trainer.
