Deena Clemente

New York, NY 10036

Recently hired as a Diplomatic Ambassador for the United States as a Hip Hop Educator, Deena Clemente had no idea growing up on Fox Street how important those years would be and all the great opportunities that awaited her. She experienced the birth of a culture that changed her life and the world.

Deena was raised in the South Bronx. The Boogie Down is where she developed her love for dance, her skills and strong cultural Latin roots in neighborhood house parties, outside park jams, block parties, talent showcases in the Fox Street Police Athletic League (PAL) and local cable station programs with her 80’s dance crew “The Unique Force” (TUF)

Deena began her journey on the streets to discover what is known today as The Hip Hop Culture, a gift from our ancestors.

Deena learned how to perform through teachings from her older sister Alexis ‘Cookie’ Sanchez (RIP). She was her first major source of womanly inspiration and confidence. Her siblings, Dennis (RIP) and Wanda nurtured her Latin roots with Salsa, Rocking and The Hustle. Deena developed as a dancer with the teachings and encouragement from her older brothers Steffan ‘Mr. Wiggles’ Clemente, Daniel ‘Bboy Breakout’ Clemente and honorary brother Jorge ‘Popmaster Fabel’ Pabon that placed the her on the path to study NYC Style Popping, Electric Boogie, Basic Floor Rocking and basic Locking drills. It was years later she learned California Funk Styles Popping Electric Boogaloo created by Boogaloo Sam and the Electric Boogaloos.

After obtaining her BA in Communications Deena worked for MTV Networks as a Pre/Post Production Coordinator. During this time Deena continued to build her resume in dance education, auditions and projects. She was given the opportunity to tour in 1996 with `Jam on the Groove' (the First and Best hip hop theater show out of NYC) with GhettOriginal Dance Productions.

Today you can find her taking her street knowledge, history, culture and experience into the studios from NYC to Abroad teaching her funky signature Hip Hop Dance Fitness Class Snap, Pop n’ Rock: ‘Organic Hip Hop Style for Wellness’, where she combines Mindful Medicine for your Mind, Body, Heart, Soul and Spirit.
She is a disciplined student of truth, technique, style and performance. She currently co-owns her dance and wellness company Tru Essencia (TEC) with her childhood friend and soul sis-star Wandee Candelario. Deena is currently established as a Wellness Professional, which includes personal training, group fitness, yoga, stillness and energy healing.
