Once upon a time, I lived alone, worked alot, and was not into spending hundreds of dollars on a quality gym. I wasn’t even interested in spending a few dollars on a gym. Being healthy and staying in shape was my responsibility and it was my goal to make exercise just as necessary as brushing my teeth. I didn’t have to go anywhere. I didn’t have to be distracted in order to get through the burn. If I needed some cardio, all I had to do was take a walk. Or, even better, dance! If I wanted to lift my window sill open or carry bags of groceries without feeling like my arms were going to fall off, I had to work the arms, the upper body, the back, etc. In other words, in order to really live, at its very essence, I needed to keep my body moving and I needed to keep the passion to live vibrant.
I didn’t start my exploration into movement until I was a preteen. It was my way of escaping the world at a time when it made me feel insecure. But my studies in dance and theater showed me how to work with the world, and to improve her outlook on my body through expressive movement and an active use of the imagination. I studied lyrical ballet, jazz, African dance, Hip Hop, and theatrical improvisation. I attended College of New Rochelle in 2003 for English and Communication Arts and later completed my Bachelors at John Jay College of Criminal Justice; this time I studied Forensic Psychology.
My curiosity of the human body has taken me down controversial, but nonetheless adventurous road. I continued to explore performance of the body as an outspoken sex worker. I gave a lecture at Yale, wrote for dodsonandross.com, was interviewed by Time Out New York. I officially retired from the business in 2011 in order to pursue other passions; the passion that has been most persistent is the pursuit of happiness through movement and fitness! In 2013 I obtained my Personal Training Certification and founded Dancing Temple.
Dancing Temple was created as a way to blend aerobic and strength training exercises with meditative and holistic techniques It embodies all that I’ve learned and loved, and my only wish is to share that same feeling with you. When I’m not making videos or training with clients, I am either enthralled in an ecstatic dance, Pilates, and aerial silks. Visit www.christinastennett.com for updates on personal projects.
