When I was a teenager, I had never in my wildest dreams thought that I'd be a personal trainer, or strength & conditioning coach, let alone a gym owner. I wasn't always into fitness. I didn't have the typical "I was always an athlete" story that you hear most personal trainers tell...
My journey began with my own transformation. I started at almost 240 lbs. I was overweight (morbidly obese by medical standards), had low self-confidence, and felt totally miserable. I hated what I saw when I looked in the mirror. I did a lot of reading & researching, made a decision to change and I have never looked back. After losing more than 80 pounds, I helped my girlfriend at the time lose 30 pounds. Then I helped a friend lose 50 pounds. I could hardly believe it myself! I studied more & more, and decided to go to school to quench my thirst for knowledge in the field of health & fitness. Fast forward 10 years..I currently lead a team of 5 personal trainers at Fitness Ranes that all use the training methods, teaching progressions, coaching cues, and systems that I have developed. My team of trainers are getting people amazing results each and every day. It's been an incredible journey, to say the least.
I've had the honor of training numerous Hawaii State & US National champions in sports such as soccer, football, judo, boxing, wrestling, jiu-jitsu, kayaking, MMA, and powerlifting. My resume includes athletes competing across the USA, and internationally in Canada, Australia, Japan, Philippines, Bahamas, Malaysia, and more. Our professional athletes have competed in organizations such as NFL, CFL, UFC, PXC, ONE FC, and many others.
Training athletes is a lot of fun, and it's really awesome to see them compete and perform their best. Still, one of the most satisfying parts about my job is being able to help normal people feel good. If doubt ever creeps in, I just remind myself why I got into this whole fitness thing: To help people live better lives and feel great about themselves.
