After starting my fitness career as a competitive bodybuilder, I redirected my focus for the last 20 years to become one of the most published writers in the fitness industry. My cover/feature articles have appeared in national publications such as Muscle & Fitness, Flex, Muscle Mag Int'l, Ironman, Women's Physique World, Official Karate, Physical, Oxygen, Let's Live, American Health & Fitness, Energy, Extreme, Fitness Rx, Fitness Rx for Men, and Men's Fitness, and I’ve appeared on television shows like "The Montel Williams Show" (three times), "Shape Up L.A.!," "Geraldo" and "Now It Can Be Told" as a women's fitness expert. In 1992, I received the "Best Columnist of the Year" award from the Academy of Bodybuilding and Fitness. My feature story, “Muscle Beach Memoirs - A Return to Camelot,” is on file with the Smithsonian Institute as an historic resource document, and my 3-part series on “the Godfather of Fitness” Jack LaLanne is the most comprehensive magazine article published on his life. I also wrote, produced and hosted and women’s sports talk radio show and was a sports commentator on a local Las Vegas television show. I am currently a contributing editor to Muscle & Fitness Hers as well as one of their featured bloggers.
For the last four years, I’ve been conducting workshops to inspire people to lead a more active lifestyle. Based upon my personal experience and the more than 500 articles I’ve written, I am convinced that one of the biggest challenges we now face is taking greater responsibility for our own health and well-being. My mission, which is expressed by the upcoming Motion is Medicine expo in October 2012, is to change the way people think about medicine - it is more than just drugs and surgery. By keeping ourselves in shape, we reap health benefits on a mental, physical, emotional and spiritual level. Along with weight training, my personal exercise favorites are yoga, zumba and a brisk walk anywhere outdoors.
