One year after the birth of my first child, I still weighed 185 pounds. I didn’t think much of the excess weight, as many of us don’t, because I was too busy thinking about my family and too busy with my job as a high school English teacher. Then one day, my husband offered to buy me a beeper—to warn people that I was backing up. While said in jest, it was the impetus I needed to get my life, my health, back on track. I changed my eating habits, started hitting the gym, and within one year lost 40 pounds; I’ve never looked back. Even through my second pregnancy with twins, I continued to exercise and eat well, habits I attribute to their healthy birth and to my quick return to pre-pregnancy size.
Today, I am even more passionate about exercise and “clean eating,” as I have watched my healthy habits continue to transform my body, my attitude, and my life. Because I wanted to share my passion with others, I decided to become a certified personal trainer. I feel I have finally found my niche, as through personal training, I am able to combine my two greatest loves: educating/helping others and exercising.
It is my desire to educate as many people as I can about the importance of exercise and proper nutrition, no matter what their fitness level. There is so much information out there about the “right” and “wrong” way to lead a healthier lifestyle, and I want to help my clients shuffle through all of the hype and find the program that is going to work for them. Each person has different goals, and it is my mission to help each client achieve his or her goals in a manner that is safe, fun, and effective.
