I have always had a passion for fitness and nutrition. After years of working in accounting and income tax preparation, I decided to make a career change and to finally become a fitness professional. I had a desire to help other women my age (Baby boomers) discover the benefits of weight training, as I had. I became a personal trainer in 2001, although my self-education in fitness and nutrition goes back over 30 years. I went back to school in 2006 to get my degree in exercise science & nutrition with a minor in journalism. While there I was the wellness editor for the Puma Press, the college newspaper, and the wellness intern for one year. I continued my education and received a Bachelor of Science in sports management, wellness and fitness. I specialize in working with women and the the mature adult population (baby boomers & the elderly), although I have had clients of all ages, from from 14 years to 99 years old, with the majority being women over 40 years old. Fitness is not just about looking good in the mirror. Number one it is about being healthy and free of disease throughout all the stages of our lives. It’s about quality & independent living. I help guide my mature clients through the many changes their bodies go through as they age to ensure a healthy future & staying mobile so that they can live independently as long as possible. I want to empower and educate them so that they may develop a lifetime of healthy habits. I approach health & fitness holistically since health is more than exercising & eating right. It involves physical health, mental health, stress management, environmental health, hormonal balance, occupational/financial health. Personal training sessions include core, balance and reactive training with an emphasis on functional movements, flexibility and addressing muscle imbalances. I encourage weekly wellness coaching sessions to address goal setting, behavior modification, and nutrition counseling/education. I work with clients in their home, locally in Phoenix, AZ and also by phone or online, using Skype. When I am not working I spend time with my husband and reading as many health, fitness, & wellness books as I can. I love learning how the human body works. I also write online about health & wellness. Of course, I also love to exercise, especially outdoors—hiking the mountains here in Phoenix or going out for a walk/jog. Other interests include singing, music and gardening.
