You will learn how you can best support cancer survivors in finding an exercise program that meets their needs, or even get started on developing a program yourself. You’ll gain an understanding of the symptoms and side effects and how to connect with the cancer support community. Research supports the benefits of exercise for clients who have cancer, and this will show you how to leverage the research for programming.

This course gives you the opportunity to look at existing research on core training and apply Pilates techniques and principles to a demographic that desperately need to be introduced to the powerhouse. You’ll review available research on Pilates and core training and explore possible solutions for training the obese client. You’ll find out what you need to know prior to working with obese clients, review some sample exercises and learn how to apply Pilates principles to the client.

You’ll obtain an understanding of the differences between stretching and warm-up, and gain a clearer, evidence-based picture of the benefits and myths surrounding stretching. You’ll be able to describe in detail the determinants of flexibility, define the different stretching methods to increase flexibility, and design a stretching regimen for your clients that incorporates the latest research and guidelines. This course will give you further insight into the uncertainty that exists about some proposed benefits of flexibility.
