Press Release - 2003
IDEA Fitness Instructor Of The Year Award Presented To Keli Roberts Of
Tujunga, California
Back to 2003 Press Releases
Anaheim,
CA – Keli Roberts is the recipient of the 2003 IDEA Fitness
Instructor of the Year Award. This honor presented at the IDEA Health
& Fitness Awards Ceremony at the IDEA World Fitness & Personal
Trainer Convention, held in Anaheim, California, July 17-20 recognizes
an individual who demonstrates strong leadership skills through community
and industry involvement and whose superior abilities and influence
as an instructor motivate active and underactive people to commit to
healthy lifestyles. The IDEA Health & Fitness Awards – presented
by Propel Fitness Water® – are considered to be the fitness industry’s
highest form of recognition and have been presented annually since 1985.
Keli Roberts
is a fitness instructor at Equinox Fitness in Pasadena, California where
she teaches indoor cycling, balance and agility training and strength
conditioning. Her classes attract students of all ages and fitness levels
and many of her workouts focus on training the body from the inside
out – from the core to the extremities. Keli’s students not only learn
a series of exercises; they also see improvements in their posture,
alignment, balance and body control.
For the
past three years, Keli has also been involved with For Girls Only, a
Christian association that holds workshops for girls between the ages
of 10-15. At these well-attended conferences, she speaks openly about
her battles with anorexia and bulimia and how she used fitness, a healthy
diet and a well-balanced lifestyle to overcome them. Keli is also a
well-known fitness educator and trainer and as a continuing education
specialist, she conducts seminars and workshops worldwide. She has also
appeared in a number of award winning fitness videos and authored successful
books on training and nutrition.
Keli believes
that true health and fitness is about much more than just the shape
of our physical body – it’s about engaging the mind, encompassing wellness
and looking at the whole rather than the pieces. Her students don’t
just workout with her, they learn how to combine goal oriented, mindful
exercise with an active lifestyle and a healthy and balanced life. “I
believe there is nothing more important than good health and fitness,
it is the ultimate insurance there is for a rewarding life,” Keli says.
As the
2003 IDEA Fitness Instructor of the Year, Keli will serve as an IDEA
spokesperson on issues pertaining to group fitness. She will also be
profiled in IDEA Health & Fitness Source magazine.
Leading authorities
in the fitness industry developed the criteria for this award. A review
panel of IDEA members who are fitness instructors judged the applications
and graded them according to the established criteria. Through this process,
three finalists were selected and the award recipient was announced on
July 17. The two other finalists for this award were Lawrence Biscontini,
MA of Fajardo, Puerto Rico and Marcus Prolo of Irvine, California.
“A fitness
instructor must have the ability to motivate and lead their clients to
fitness. As we begin to Inspire the World to Fitness, they will have to
work with people who have little or no experience with exercise and frequently
put up obstacles to getting fit. They are a critical part of the equation
and this award recognizes the important role fitness instructors play
in reaching overweight and inactive people,” says Kathie Davis, Executive
Director of IDEA Health & Fitness Association.
The 2003 IDEA World Fitness & Personal Trainer Convention features
over 300 Educational Sessions from more than 100 of the world=s leading
health and fitness presenters. Inspire the World to Fitness is the focus
of this year’s conference and a wide assortment of lectures and workshops
will help fitness professionals address the twin health care challenges
of obesity and sedentary living.
