IDEA World Fitness Convention celebrates 30 years
Kathie and Peter Davis will celebrate IDEA World Fitness Convention’s 30th year Thursday through Sunday at the San Diego Convention Center. This year’s theme is “BE the Transformation.”
More than 5,000 attendees are invited to attend the convention, where there will be previews of new fitness classes and workouts, the debut of new products, hundreds of exhibits, and chances to earn education credits. Kathie Davis said she expects the upcoming hottest fitness trends to be boot camps, partner training, dance-related classes and suspension training systems like TRX.
“From the start in 1982 to today, providing the industry’s best professional tools and resources has been the ultimate goal,” Davis said. “The result is safe, smart training for fitness enthusiasts and increased satisfaction and longevity for fit pros in their careers.”
Peter and Kathie Davis co-founded the IDEA Health & Fitness Association, which is based in San Diego “When we first started 30 years ago, the big fitness trends were aerobics, pink leg warmers and ‘feel the burn’-type workouts,” Kathie Davis said in a release. “At this time, my husband and I were fresh out of San Diego State University and felt empowered by the growing fitness movement. But we also realized that fitness educators had little experience or background. We believed that the fitness industry needed some kind of association for professionals to receive unbiased information, guidance and training. From that, IDEA was born, and we’ve never looked back.”
IDEA Health & Fitness also offers IDEA FitnessConnect, a national directory of fitness professionals offered at no cost. There are more than 250,000 fitness professionals listed, as well as 25,000 clubs and studios and 15,000 classes and events.
Davis said San Diego, one of the nation’s healthiest cities, has open-minded and innovative fitness professionals as well as exercise and nutritional sciences programs at SDSU.
