IDEA Member Spotlight
Meet Some Outstanding Members!
Bill De Simone
Princeton, New Jersey
Member Since 1997
A focus on biomechanics and a desire to attract the inactive exerciser are what motivate personal trainer Bill De Simone. "Most of what I do professionally, from promotion to pricing to exercise selection, is done with the goal of drawing in the nonexerciser," says Bill. His interest in incorporating biomechanics and knowledge of human movement into his training came as a result of his own training-induced injuries. "At this point," he says, "I spend [a lot of] time with biomechanics texts, trying to modify exercises and machine instruction to be more in line with muscle and joint sequence." Bill also works as a high-school recreation basketball coach, and he volunteers at a local food bank and soup kitchen.
Nancy Jerominski
Seattle, Washington
Member Since 2005
A bout with drug and alcohol abuse 15 years ago led to Nancy Jerominski's expulsion from the fitness industry. "In 1996," she says, "I chose to get sober." Nancy went on to become a courier, but a back injury sidelined her. "At 47 years old, I was in a crisis about what to do for a living. After my injury and much introspection and soul searching, I carefully approached [previous employer Kari Anderson] and her husband about the possibility of working as a member of their staff once more." Nancy was given the opportunity to return to work and now uses her story to remind clients that nothing is impossible. She has also been helping a woman imprisoned on drug charges to study for the ACE exams. "My 50th birthday is 6 months away, and I am strong, fit, functional and clearheaded," says Nancy. "I am extremely grateful for each day of my active life! I believe this is how I inspire the world, or at least a corner of my city, to fitness."
