IDEA Pilates Today Contributing Editors

Brent Anderson PhD, president and CEO of Polestar Pilates™ Education, is a physical therapist and orthopedic certified specialist. He specializes in performing arts medicine and Pilates-evolved techniques for rehabilitation. Anderson lectures internationally and consults with physical therapy companies, universities and other educational institutions throughout the world. In addition, he owns and operates a comprehensive Pilates conditioning and physical therapy center, which has served as a model for many other studios worldwide.

 

 

 

 

Elizabeth Anderson

is the executive director of the Pilates Method Alliance®, where she’s been since mid-2007. Prior to joining the PMA®, Anderson worked in the United Kingdom Pilates industry in management and administrative capacities. She founded the UK’s Polestar Pilates company, as well as her own Pilates Umbrella Ltd., a continuing education company for Pilates practitioners, which she still manages from the United States with the help of UK colleagues.

 

 

 

Juan Bosco Calvo, MD, is a physician and Pilates educator who specializes in performing arts medicine. He is a professor at Alcala University in Spain and teaches anatomy, biomechanics, functional screening and rehabilitation. Calvo organized the Pilates method diploma as new curriculum for health sciences and for sports and physical education in Spain and Central/South America. In 2007 he co-founded Corpora Pilates, with a focus on education, research and rehabilitation.

 

 

 

 

Kathy Corey is the director of Kathy Corey Pilates and a master teacher who began her Pilates career in 1979. The Kathy Corey Pilates Certification Program is taught across the United States, and her continuing education programs are taught in 12 countries. In 2004, she designed the CORE Band™, which is used in studios around the world and is recognized as an enhancement to traditional mat exercises.

 

 

 

 

Ken Endelman is founder and CEO of Balanced Body®, a provider of Pilates equipment, information and education. For over 30 years Endelman has worked with Pilates professionals and educators to create equipment and training programs that meld the original designs of Joseph Pilates with current understanding of human biomechanics. Endelman has practiced Pilates since 1989 and has taken classes with Ron Fletcher, Romana Kryzanowska, Eve Gentry and Cathy Grant.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Rosalind Gray Davis is a health, fitness and wellness industry expert, having published numerous articles in national periodicals. As a communications consultant, Gray Davis has provided marketing, public relations and writing expertise for numerous high-profile companies. She is a certified Pilates instructor and has expanded her knowledge through participation in numerous classes, seminars and workshops. Her broad-based expertise has resulted in her selection to several community and industry based leadership roles.

 

 

 

 

 

 


Rael Isacowitz, MA, has more than 30 years of Pilates achievement behind him and is a sought-after lecturer and teacher at symposiums, universities, colleges and studios around the globe. His early Pilates teachers included Alan Herdman and thereafter several of the first-generation Pilates elders. In 1989 he founded Body Arts and Science International® (BASI Pilates™), which is represented in 20 countries and over 100 locations.

 

 

 

 

Michael King has been working with the Pilates technique for over 30 years. He was introduced to the method in the United Kingdom as a dancer at the London School of Contemporary Dance. In 1982 he opened his own studio, Body Control, and has held several international positions since then. King is now based in Uruguay, and his training programs are taught in over 30 countries worldwide.

 

 

 

 

 

 

A career entrepreneur, Julie Lobdell started her first company, Real Entertainment, at the age of 21. She founded Peak Pilates® in 1996 after taking a comprehensive instructor-training program that ignited her passion for the Pilates method. Today, Peak Pilates is known as a prominent worldwide brand for equipment and education programs. In March 2009, Mad Dogg Athletics acquired Peak Pilates, and Lobdell remains at the helm.

 

 

 

 

Lindsay G. Merrithew has been the driving force behind the growth of Merrithew Corporation, and its premier brand, STOTT PILATES®. He was nominated twice for Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur Of The Year® award and has been instrumental in designing, producing and marketing the company’s equipment and DVD lines. Merrithew is a member of Ontario’s Innovators Alliance for elite entrepreneurs and is consulted regularly by the trade and business media.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mari Winsor is a fitness expert who is credited with popularizing Pilates and making it more accessible to the public. Certified by Romana Kryzanowska, Winsor brought Pilates to a new level of public recognition when she released her first infomercial in 2003. Committed to sharing her knowledge and experience with the public, Winsor has co-authored three Pilates-themed books, and her expertise has been featured in countless magazines.
