I chose ISSA certification because more emphasis is placed on learning, accredited by DECT, and not just testing. Memorizing for an exam is good, but if a trainer does not have a solid understanding on applying learned knowledge to actual periodized program development based on client needs and goals, it's useless.
ISSA was my first Certification and I would do it all over again even after everything else that I have learned since then. The only thing that is lacking with this certification is a more indepth corrective exercise format/strategy for sedentary individuals returning to exercise. No other certification that I have done(and I have a couple) has even covered the strength curve like ISSA much less covered it at all. I can say that my understanding of how to manipulate the strength curve from ISSA is the basis for all my program designs and always will be.
ISSA was my certification of choice for personal training. I was referred by my dad, who is also an ISSA personal trainer. I love that they offer at-home training but give you an option to attend the class trainings. The class materials are very useful and the exam was easy to follow and take online. ISSA is one of the few certifications around that offer so many different certifications and continuing education courses. I continue to remain an ISSA certified fitness trainer and refer any aspiring trainers to this organization.
