- Discuss the relationship between the prevalence of obesity and today’s environment and lifestyle.
- Define the following terms: energy balance, leptin, adi-ponectin, inflammatory proteins, grehlin and peptide YY.
- Explain the health consequences of fat deposited in the abdominal area versus the hips and thighs.
- Discuss how small changes in weight can affect health.
- Elaborate on the following three lifestyle modification components of a successful obesity treatment program: dietary intervention, behavioral therapy and physical activity.

- Identify the fat-soluble vitamins, and describe the concern for toxicity when these are taken in large amounts.
- Compare the efficacy of generic vs. brand multivitamins, special-interest vs. regular formulations, and “natural” vs. synthetic multivitamins.
- Choose a multivitamin by evaluating dosage, preparation method, quality and expiration date.
