I Inspire Video Contest Stirs Up Enthusiasm
Thank you for the opportunity to spark summer excitement throughout my classes these past few weeks. The I Inspire video contest brought people together and created new friendships, not only among the participants in the video, but also throughout our facilities, neighborhoods and beyond. I am proud to be a member of IDEA, and I thank you for keeping us informed and connected to our exciting and ever-changing profession. I congratulate those who finished ahead of my TEAM STEP video, as well as all those who entered the contest. It was inspiring for me to watch others who share the same passion and desire to Inspire the World to Fitness®!

IDEA Customer Care
I have been an IDEA member since 1996. IDEA is the industry standard not only as a fitness association, but as an example of how businesses should be run! It is rare in this day and age to find customer service-oriented businesses. IDEA makes me feel like I matter, and it does a great, timely job in all aspects of customer and fitness-professional needs. The staff is knowledgeable, kind and professional. Year after year, it proves to be the best way to spend my hard-earned fitness dollars. The IDEA family is the support system I rely on to continue to grow as a fitness professional.
Finding Yin Through Yoga
In answer to your call for inspiring fitness stories, I have had some amazing experiences teaching yoga to special populations. Thirty years ago, I developed a prenatal yoga program and discovered firsthand the many health benefits yoga has to offer. Over the years, I increased my practice to work with cancer patients and people with heart disease, multiple sclerosis and other physical and mental challenges. Last year, I taught a yoga class at a hearing-impaired conference and was awed at [the students’] response.
The key to working with special populations is rather than focus on what they can’t do, focus on what they can do. I feel passionate about sharing the benefits of yoga with as many people as are willing to try. I tell people, “If you can breathe, you can do yoga.” The Western fitness model is so “yang.” In other words, it is all about how you look on the outside. For those of us who feel challenged with bodies that may not look the way the magazines portray them, this can be a bit intimidating. What we need the most right now in the fitness world is more “yin”—more inward connection, more reasons to love our bodies and [the ability] to discover the potential we all have at our core. Finding beauty from the inside out is something we all can experience with the right setting, appropriate tools and an empathetic teacher.

Defining Moments at IDEA World
There are certain moments in a person’s life that help define who they really are and where they should be going. Thank you for creating one of those for me. This year’s IDEA World Fitness Convention™ was so informative, motivational, energizing and fun! I just want to thank you. And though I may be only one attendee out of thousands who attended this year’s conference, please know that you have truly inspired my world to fitness. Thank you!

It was great to be [at the convention] with you and all IDEA members for the third time. I have really spent great moments with everybody. My business is growing so quickly in Lebanon, helping all the trainers and inspiring the community to fitness. I thank you again for everything, and I dedicate my success to IDEA.

Thank you so much for including us in your 2008 IDEA World Fitness Convention. It was a great platform to increase awareness and inspire people to get involved. We really appreciate your continued support in the fight against ALS.
It was wonderful to meet [IDEA staff] at this year’s IDEA World Fitness Convention. Thank you for inviting me to speak. Bob Esquerre and I had a wonderful time presenting, and I met wonderful people from around the globe. There were so many interesting sessions to attend, as well! Please know you have another friend in NYC.

I want to let you know how much I enjoyed the IDEA World convention this year. Maybe I was just overjoyed at not sweating through my sessions while 8 months’ pregnant. I don’t know, but I sense it was something more. From the Schwinn® Indoor Cycling Instructor Training Course precon, where we had a packed house of the most positive, interested and enthusiastic instructors (including three from Kazakhstan!); to the opening ceremonies where [2008 IDEA Fitness Inspiration of the Year Award recipient] Brian Boyle’s sweet soul just tore me up; to the words of [keynote speaker] John Gray, PhD, which opened up a new way of thinking about relationships; to my dance sessions, where great attitudes and zinging energy seemed to reign supreme—it was a blast. Thank you for having me for the last 13 years! It’s a gem in my crown to be able to say I’ve been a part of something that cool for that long.
