Get Real!

I recently received the November–December issue of IDEA Fitness Journal in the mail. Something deep inside of me relaxed and rejoiced when I saw the lovely and very real older woman on your cover. If she can be there—with her real skin, real breasts and real belly—then I can be here, too. Just as I am.

Thank you. I hadn’t realized how, on such a physical level, the “perfect” cover girls of mainstream media quietly negate the right to be comfortable in my own skin ... freckles and all.

Inner IDEA® Revisited

I wanted to write and share a few thoughts on the Inner IDEA Conference now that some time has passed and what really was retained can be shared.

Peter Reding. I was so fortunate to attend “How to Be a Positively Brilliant Facilitator” as my first workshop. It set me up for the entire event and gave me a new perspective with which to observe all the other teachers doing their thing with varying degrees of “brilliance,” as Peter would put it. I had some really powerful breakthroughs that gave me momentum for the rest of the event.

Jeff Bensky. Okay, I admit that I’m a little biased, as I devour marketing [information], but this guy totally shifted my perspective on the “experience” side of marketing.

Lorna Francis. Wow. She was amazing. The exercises she gave us to better our listening skills have made a huge impact on me since the event.

There were many other things that I really enjoyed. I dug the Gyrotonic exercise and Nia®, neither of which I had tried before, and found them to be fascinating and really fun. I also really enjoyed the facility, how organized the event was, the food and the vibe of the awesome IDEA team. Namasté!

IDEA Personal Trainer Institute™ Feedback

A sincere thank-you for hosting such a successful and inspiring event—Disney style! What fun. What a learning experience! What a great field we all work in. The Bay Athletic Club crew has returned home to Michigan with fresh ideas and a stronger sense of team. Hats off to the IDEA staff.

I was very impressed with the Personal Trainer Institute in Orlando and had
a great time. I learned so much and generated so many ideas from those
surrounding me throughout the convention. The organization, instructors and networking activities were all great. I thought it was a first-class event and want to congratulate you and thank you for doing such a great job. Looking forward to next year.

We want to congratulate the IDEA staff for putting on such a great conference in Orlando. As attendees to many past IDEA conferences, we both felt this was one of the best ever! The provided meals were a great addition and enabled us to focus more on networking. We also enjoyed the intimate setting and longer, in-depth presentations. As owners of a personal training business for 13 years, we have sometimes struggled to find relevant information to help us take our business to the next “level,” but this conference was one exception to the rule. Thanks so much!

The Biscontini Scholarship: Changing Lives

The 2007 Biscontini Scholarship has enriched my life and expanded my horizons as a teacher as well as a person. My primary occupation was movement therapy for mentally handicapped adults. I loved them and still do, but when I saw Lawrence teaching at the 2007 IDEA World Fitness Convention™ in San Diego, I longed to feel the exuberance, grace and peace I felt flowing from him as he taught our land and water classes. I knew there was emptiness in my heart—a longing to be like him—a need to go back to the gym. Because of his superb teaching methods, I am now at Odyssey, a local fitness center, teaching yoga, tai chi and core classes. I also teach three Pilates classes at Misericordia University. I would never have gone back into a gym (not even to work out) if it had not been for Lawrence’s caring and energetic style. I was mesmerized watching Lawrence teach SHAKTI™ without saying a word. It touched my heart. I can still see him now—a true master of his art, yet so compassionate that I felt that he taught the class to me personally. Thanks to the opportunity that Lawrence and IDEA have given me, I am a fulfilled person. It was truly a life-changing experience.
