Do you realize how powerful your work as a fitness professional is in transforming the world for the better? Your power—your purpose—is fueled by the inspiration that arises from deep inside you every day. It’s a stunning flow of energy that radiates outward to others, igniting their will to accomplish what they never thought possible. Your inspiration becomes their inspiration. Dividends get paid forward through each person they touch with the new light you’ve shown them.
Motivation is wonderful, but inspiration transcends it. As motivational speaker and self-help author Wayne Dyer once said, “Motivation is when you get hold of an idea and don’t let go of it until you make it a reality. Inspiration is the reverse—when an idea gets hold of you and you feel compelled to let that impulse or energy carry you along. You get to a point where you realize that you’re no longer in charge, that there’s a driving force inside you that can’t be stopped.”
IDEA expert author and educator Peter Twist, MSc, IDEA’s 2013 Inspiration Award recipient, knows this call well. He clearly remembers his young self walking home from grade school one day and understanding that he was destined for a “higher purpose.” Not fame or celebrity; rather, he felt a peaceful awareness that “my path would never totally be my own.”
Pete’s view of inspiration has evolved over time. “I have more respect and empathy for people’s challenges, and I understand everyone I meet has many layers. I also realize I won’t change the world—though I know it needs much more change than I used to understand. I can do my small part and will continue to take the biggest bite possible. I recognize more and more that [fitness professionals] are opening minds, igniting spirits and giving people permission to define their own paths.”
The starting point to leading and inspiring others is to top off your personal inspiration tank. The 2013 IDEA World Fitness Convention™ is the ideal place to start! You can learn more from Pete Twist and a legion of the world’s finest fitness educators August 7–11 in Los Angeles. Inspiration awaits you at every turn.
