I feel that for "traditional" sports this article may pose some truth, however, how often have studies been done on Martial Artist, Dancers and Gymnasts. These disciplines require the full ROM for the athlete. How, then can it not be beneficial to reach full extensibility before training.
I would agree that for someone coming into the gym to get on the elliptical or to simply lift that pre-workout static stretching may not be beneficial. But, I do believe that for high level athletes that train sports that require full ROM from start to finish should perform static and ballistic stretching!
