Quick, No-Cook Healthy Breakfast Ideas
Food for Thought:
Myriad studies have shown that skipping breakfast is one of the worst ways to try to lose weight or maintain optimal health. But it can be a real challenge to find healthy breakfast fare that doesn’t need to be cooked and can be transported as you and the kids rush out the door each morning.
Here are a few fast but healthy breakfast suggestions from the editors at Consumer Reports on Health:
- whole-grain frozen waffles topped with berries and nonfat ricotta cheese flavored with vanilla extract
- peanut butter and sliced banana on whole-wheat toast
- plain or sugar-free yogurt, with your own topping of fresh fruit and whole-grain cereal
- smoked salmon on a whole-wheat bagel with a “schmear” of low-fat cream cheese and a slice of tomato
- whole-wheat English muffin with a slice of pear and cheddar cheese
- nonfat yogurt mixed with dried cranberries, low-fat granola and flax seeds
