But now the institution has awarded accolades to three diet books on the market. Here’s a look at the best diet books:
Thin for Life: 10 Keys to Success From People Who Have Lost Weight and Kept It Off by Anne M. Fletcher, MS, RD (Houghton Mifflin Company 2003). The author shares strategies from 160 men and women who lost at least 20 pounds and kept the weight off for a minimum of 3 years.
Strong Women Stay Slim by Miriam E. Nelson, PhD, with Sarah Wernick, PhD (Bantam Books 1998). The authors emphasize a deprivation-free diet approach and provide meal plans and other tips for success.
The Volumetrics Weight-Control Plan: Feel Full on Fewer Calories by Barbara Rolls, PhD, and Robert A. Barnett (HarperCollins 2000). The premise of this book is that by lowering the caloric content of your meals while still retaining the volume or density of each meal, you lose weight without feeling hungry, because you eat the same amount you normally do. Included are high-density replacement suggestions for high-calorie foods like ice cream.
