Poll: Employee Fitness Programs Work

Making News:

Is the corporate fitness program you offer not being well received by local businesses? Here’s a new selling point. According to a poll, companies that sponsor fitness programs are seeing increased morale and productivity, as well as lower healthcare costs.

The National Business Group on Health, a Washington-based employer coalition, polled 84 U.S. companies and found that 77% had onsite fitness centers, 69% offered onsite fitness programs and 38% offered online information, including health appraisals and weight loss tracking systems.

The companies also reported the following:

  • 56% had higher worker morale.
  • 27% attributed reduced healthcare costs to their fitness programs.
  • 73% said that convenience was one of the most effective methods of increasing participation.
  • 61% shared the cost of the fitness programs with their employees.
  • 27% paid the entire cost.
