The National Business Group on Health, a Washington-based employer coalition, polled 84 U.S. companies and found that 77% had onsite fitness centers, 69% offered onsite fitness programs and 38% offered online information, including health appraisals and weight loss tracking systems.
The companies also reported the following:
- 56% had higher worker morale.
- 27% attributed reduced healthcare costs to their fitness programs.
- 73% said that convenience was one of the most effective methods of increasing participation.
- 61% shared the cost of the fitness programs with their employees.
- 27% paid the entire cost.
