Plant a Garden With Kids

Jun 04, 2008

With the cost of produce climbing like a beanstalk, this may be the year to plant a garden. In addition to the vegetables you reap, your kids may sow many health benefits and develop good eating habits that last a lifetime.

According to a study that appeared in the April 20, 2007, issue of the Journal of the American Dietetic Association, children will eat more fruits and vegetables when they are served homegrown produce. Kids who are often exposed to fresh farm produce also tend to eat a wider variety of fruits and veggies and develop a greater preference for them compared with children who have limited access to gardens.

So get out those shovels and start planting healthy habits in your children this summer. You could even start up a community garden—and watch the kids in your neighborhood blossom.
