Management consultant and author Peter F. Drucker once said, “Efficiency is doing better what is already being done.” Along those lines, we are pleased to tell you that getting your home study CECs from IDEA Fitness Journal is now more efficient than ever.
Beginning with this issue, we have expanded your CEC/CEU opportunities and options to include educational material throughout the journal instead of only in themed feature sections on a specialized topic. Each issue will provide you with between 0.1 and 0.5 potential credits to apply toward your certification renewal. You can opt to take just one of the tests in this month’s package (for 0.1 CEC) or to take two or more of the tests (for a maximum of 0.4/4.0 CECs).
This à la carte system gives you more freedom to study the specialty areas and topics that resonate with your professional needs and interests. The new protocol is also more time- efficient. Rather than spend 3–4 hours reading three full feature stories and then taking a 30-question test for 0.3 CECs, you can now divide your study as time allows. So, you can still get the 0.3 CECs, but you’ll be able to fit the reading and test-taking into your busy schedule in approximately 1-hour segments.
Each column or feature that is eligible for CECs is marked with a CEC logo and refers you to the test in the back of the magazine. Learning objectives and instructions for each test can be found there. Please note that there is a $5 discount for taking the test online. Taking the test digitally also gives you the benefit of instant pass/fail results—and you will be able to print your certificate of completion on the spot to send to your certifying body.
We hope you find this new home study system as easy to navigate and as convenient as we believe it to be. As always, we welcome your feedback. Write to editor in chief Sandy Todd Webster (email@example.com) to let her know your thoughts about it.
We’re happy and proud to announce the launch of our newest e-newsletter, IDEA Pilates Today. On April 22, IDEA members in our mind-body, program director and business categories will begin receiving this new member benefit via e-mail.
Pilates teaching, equipment and application has continued to evolve in order to serve a wider and more diverse clientele. What has not changed is Joe Pilates’ basic philosophy of helping others to discover the strength of their own bodies through specific movement and breath. IDEA aims to unite the foundations of Pilates’ origins with the promise of the future by nurturing the spreading roots of a movement that has seemingly boundless potential.
The newsletter will cover a rotating variety of topics, including body knowledge/anatomy, equipment, business/career issues, teaching skills, case studies and much more. It’s another exciting publication launch from IDEA! We will produce IDEA Pilates Today four times this year (April, June, September and November) and expand the frequency in 2011. If you would like to receive this e-newsletter but are not in one of the aforementioned membership categories, please call IDEA member services to inquire about it: (800) 999-4332, ext. 7.
We hope to see many of you at the IDEA Fitness Fusion™ Conference later this month! Please come up and say hello in Chicago!
In good health,
Kathie and Peter Davis
