Making News:

What do you get when you cross a group of shy gym members with an out-of-the-way, seldom-used room filled with old cardiovascular equipment? Cardio Cinema, says Heather Greathouse, office manager of the Clarksville Athletic Club (CAC) in Clarksville, Tennessee. According to Greathouse, management at CAC noticed that many of its members would shun its multilevel, out-in-the-open cardio room in favor of a lesser-used room away from public view. When questioned, those members admitted to being shy; they preferred to exercise where they could not readily be seen. Realizing the room’s potential, CAC management decided to get creative and built a 2,000-square-foot tiered movie theater with an 181/2-foot screen. They replaced the older equipment with new treadmills, elliptical machines and exercise bikes. CAC member Charles Moreland stated, “The cinema is the newest idea, a creative idea. There are only about five of them in the country. It’s a terrific way for those of us who are so inclined to extend our workout periods.”
