IDEA Staffers Go Urban for Good Cause

On Saturday, November 21, IDEA associate editor Ryan Halvorson (right) and graphic designer Rafael Lopez (far left) took to the streets of San Diego for the GO Urban Adventure Challenge. The challenge takes place in a variety of cities across the U.S. and invites two-person teams to solve clues via text message. Once solved, the clues direct teams to various locations where they must perform physical and mental challenges. Challengers must travel by foot or public transportation only. Halvorson and Lopez decided to forgo the public transportation and spent the better part of 3 hours hoofing it through hilly downtown San Diego. “Overall, the GO Urban race was different, challenging and, unlike most other races, fun,” recalls Lopez.

According to event planner Emilie Fischman, Go Urban is not just about a fun—and tiring—day outdoors. “What makes GO Urban so unique is that it is a nonprofit event that benefits an excellent and much needed cause, Project LIVE, which [aims] to fight obesity on college campuses throughout the U.S. through student-led initiatives,” states Fischman. “Also, GO Urban is arguably the greenest race of its kind, with environmentally-friendly sponsors and no paper waste thanks to SMS text clues.”
