Meet Some Outstanding Members Who Inspire the World to Fitness®!
Ana and André Costa
Brooklyn, New York
Members Since 2005
Ana and André Costa have brought a bit of Brazilian culture to Brooklyn with their arts and culture center, Raízes do Brasil Capoeira. "We started our academy to meet the high demand for Capoeira classes for kids and adults and to share the folkloric arts of Brazil," says Ana. They believe that their programs are more than simply a means for getting in shape. "Our students begin taking better care of their bodies outside of the classes through activities like weight training, running and yoga to help them get better at Capoeira," adds André. The Costas, who also teach Capoeira classes in local schools, assert that the community they have created helps promote healthy living.

Aside from being the mother to three little girls, Fawn Gill believes her greatest accomplishment has been the opening of the first gym on the small island where she lives. "My husband and I jumped at the opportunity to fulfill a very important need in the community," she says. "It is truly an incredible feeling to live and work in a small town and see the impact you have on someone's life on a daily basis." In this respect, Fawn helps others learn the benefits of healthy living both in and out of her gym. "I strive to be a role model by living a balanced life that includes daily exercise and healthy eating."
