As a trainer, how do you determine the proper blend of isolated exercise and integrated movement? Integrated exercise can appear to be more functional, but if you are only as strong as your weakest link, you may need to address isolated weaknesses first, thereby avoiding reinforcing muscular imbalances. In this session, you’ll learn to how to identify compensations brought on by muscle weakness, and what you can do to strengthen weak links by implementing isolated and integrated exercises together using a structured approach. With this knowledge, trainers will be prepared to make better decisions about their clients’ training programs.

When astronauts are in outer space, their bodies exhibit signs of accelerated aging that revert to normal upon return to Earth’s gravity. This phenomenon demonstrates the importance of resisted movement to managing the effects of aging on the body. In fact, intelligently applied forces and variable movement stress prevent bone loss, improve hormone profiles, and promote collagen development. In this workshop, we’ll use methodologies to develop programs that address tissue resiliency, anabolic response and other anti-aging factors.

Time Block G - Saturday, 8:15-11:05am
Integrated movement patterns require a transmission of forces whether the movement is initiated from the ground up or top down. In either case, the forces are either transferred or mitigated and must pass through the central unit. This principle prompts discussion of how the great toe, foot, ankle, hips, torso and arms are all a woven matrix that is actually part of the core. Learn how limitations in these regions can create deficits in the central unit function. Develop progression strategies to enhance core function by changing body angles, use extremity movements, and understand the fascial relationships that functionally feed the core.
