Words cannot convey how truly fantastic my experience was at the 2011 IDEA World Fitness Convention. As a convention veteran—seeing the energetic pulse this year of all the diverse participants across all age groups, all levels of ability and the far reaches of the globe—I was reminded of how much I love our industry and its wide embrace.
IDEA is coming to the end of an exciting conference and convention year. We are about to put on our third event of the year and are feeling the elation of being in the home stretch while simultaneously feeling a bit wistful that it’s all winding down.
You might describe it as overwhelming, but even that superlative is an underwhelming descriptor for what transpired at the 2011 IDEA World Fitness Convention in Los Angeles, August 11–14. Between Apolo Ohno’s keynote message of zero regrets and the convention theme of “Take the Challenge,” there was no way to leave even a whisper of yourself on the table. The atmosphere at this event had a way of sucking the energy right out of you and then infusing it right back in—plus 10%. Everyone gave it up and got it back, and the effect was palpable.
We are just 5 or 6 weeks away from seeing many of you at the IDEA World Fitness Convention™ in Los Angeles (August 11–14). There are so many great things in store for this year’s attendees—from our signature original programming and a jam-packed Fitness & Wellness Expo to parties/networking events and all the great attractions Los Angeles has to offer—that it’s sure to be a fun and fantastic experience.
“When I think of ‘wellness within,’ the theme of Inner IDEA this year, the word that comes to me right away is balance—balance between mind, body and the breath,” says world-renowned yoga instructor and Inner IDEA presenter Rodney Yee, who will guide three sessions at the conference, including a large-group closing workout. “Wellness within is mindfulness and acceptance of what you are, what you feel inside and how it’s always changing. That process is helped by being attentive to the breath as it moves through the body.
