Melissa is an active member of the American Council on Exercise (ACE), the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), a Medifast Health Coach, and a former Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). To continually expand her knowledge and aid her work with post-rehab clients, Melissa volunteers at the Rehab United Physical Therapy Center in La Mesa, California, where she assists by working with patients suffering from a range of cute as well as chronic conditions. Melissa, herself an athlete, enjoys training in mixed martial arts like American-style Kickboxing, in which she holds a Black Belt, as well as Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, where she has earned a Blue Belt. Weight training and cross training to stay fit, she enjoys extreme sports like dirt bike riding, snowboarding, and backpacking. Her creed is, "Work hard, play hard". She also plays bass guitar in her band for fun.
