Training the abs from an upright position with the Russian twist is a fantastic way to work the core. It also gets the heart rate up, so it's a good one for doing circuits or in interval training. Hold the kettlebell or dumbbell by the horns or the sides and rotate the body. Then start to go a little faster and rotate. As a progression, flip the kettlebell so you allow it to flip in your hands. This is much more ballistic and explosive. As a further progression, do a little rhythm change where you go quick, quick, slow, quick, quick, slow. Now, on that slow one, or the bigger one, explode into it, putting on the brakes and then re-accelerating. These are really important aspects in core training.
