Dumbbell shadow boxing is going to be a great exercise for the biceps and the anterior delt as we have to hold those dumbbells against gravity. But as Anna goes through the punching, you're also going to see how much she has to control the momentum of the dumbbell with the posterior aspect of her shoulder girdle and even her low back muscles as her arm reaches away from her body. So the arms will be up and she'll alternate punches with a little bit of rotation that has to be controlled each time that arm gets out in front of her. If we wanted to regress this exercise for Anna, we would just simply cut down on the range of motion, keeping the arm as a shorter lever, a little bit closer to the body each time she punched.
