Dumbbell Push-Ups with Rotation

The dumbbell pushup with rotation places a huge demand unilaterally on the shoulder girdle as we have one arm come up and off the floor and then we have to decelerate the weight of that upper body and arm as it comes back down to the floor. Anna starts in a pushup position with her hands on the dumbbells. The dumbbells allow her knuckles to clear the floor. She's in the good piked position and lowers her chest to the pushup, but as she comes up she shifts all her weight to the one arm and now have to come back down and reverse directions on the opposite side. She gets great rotation through her thoracic spine, but there's a lot of stability and motion that has to go on in that shoulder that's still on the ground. If we wanted to regress this exercise for Anna we could do the same motion, but get rid of the resistance with the dumbbells. So we could still do the push up and come up with the rotation, still getting the good torso rotation and the good hip rotation minus the dumbbells.
