Alternate Arm Bent Over Reverse Flyes

by Anthony Carey, MA

Description

The alternate arm dumbbell reverse flyes allows us to achieve what we want to achieve with that posterior shoulder girdle musculature, but we also get to incorporate a little bit of thoracic rotation, which is important for unilateral movements of the arm. So Anna will get in a little squat position, and equally important we're going to get her torso and her thoracic spine parallel to the floor. The arms are hanging in front of her below her chest and she's going to raise one arm up into the reverse fly, which allows for some thoracic rotation, and then she immediately transitions to the other arm alternating arms each time as she goes through the motion. To progress this exercise for Anna she'll stand on a soft, unstable surface that's gonna show greater reflections and shifts in her center of gravity, which she will have to accommodate and stabilize against.
