102: Improving Balance and Mobility Skills in Older Adults L / WS

Thursday, 12:00-6:00pm
Presented by: Karen Schlieter, MBA
Session Format: Preconference

In this 6-hour workshop, we will review the systems that contribute to balance and mobility, and the importance of incorporating the principles of functional relevance, challenge and accommodation into your training of older adults. Trainers will learn how to assess balance skills for older-adult clients by administering the Fullerton Advanced Balance Scale, a tool that assesses balance skills for independently functioning older adults. In addition, we’ll introduce the 30’ Walk Test, which is an assessment of mobility. Trainers will experience specific balance and mobility activities that can be easily incorporated into sessions with older adults. Emphasis will also be placed on how to regress or progress an activity’s difficulty based on individual client needs.

This preconference will include two 10-minute breaks.
CECs are pending.
