Fitness Selfie: Taking Your Quick and Valuable Fitness Notes

Alright, worldly readers: You must take some pictures of yourself to monitor your progress on fitness goals.  Why?  Because they tell you where you really are right now. Grab someone to take a load of pictures of you working out.  These images are like a mirror in motion and the purpose is not perfection. Your fitness selfies should tell you:

Exercising at Appropriate Intensity

When speaking with clients and potential clients, personal trainers are often asked their opinions about the latest fad in the exercise industry. I can't count how many times I am asked my view on such workouts as P90X, CrossFit, etc. While these are good workout programs that certainly have their place with certain segments of the population, I do not recommend them for beginners or people who have returned to exercise after a long lapse. For these clients, it is important to first master correct posture and form before jumping in to more advanced levels of exercise.

OUT WITH THE OLD.....IN WITH THE NEW.......

There’s a constant focus on what is new, flashy and trendy. For example. P90X, Insanity, Zumba, Shake weight. Just kidding on the shake weight. Still wanted to see if you were still reading. And, to a certain extent, that’s fine. But in pursuing the new, the cutting-edge and the fresh, we can sometimes overlook the basics.

ONE SIZE DOES NOT FIT ALL.

P90X. Body pump. Turbo fire. All these one size fit all programing doesn't take into account you, the individual. Everyone's posture is different. Your slouched shoulders are not good for overhead pressing. You need more back exercises. You may have tight hips, so getting into any squat position is difficult.
