When someone asks you what some of your interests or hobbies are and you reply working out and going to the gym, it gives off the impression that you're shallow, and only care about looks, especially if you're surrounded by people who don't follow the same philosophy. For me though, working out is much more than just trying to get a shredded six-pack and look good for the beach. I'm going to be honest that yes those thoughts do cross my mind and some of my fitness goals are based on my physical appearance, but that is mostly to focus on a tangible result.
The title of this blog adequately describes what happened the first session of week 2. The participants are in this program to improve their fitness levels, body comps and lifestyle. All the while having individual goals in a group environment. Okay- So what the heck happened last night?!?! A few words come to mind; loaded for bear and challenge me with a butt kickin! The workout was absolutely owned by each and every one of them!!!
In a little over a year since I became a full-time trainer for the YMCA, I've been approached by seven individuals who have a business proposal (creating a side business) that will supposedly grant me financial freedom. I've often found these individuals to be a bit ignorant in what is permissible for a personal trainer. Most of them are unaware of the fact that I do have a scope of practice to follow. Most of them just assume that because I am a personal trainer, that whatever they have to sell (health products, supplements, drinks, etc.), will be an easy sell to
Most people question my lifestyleon why do you sleep so little? Why dont you go out on the weekends? One chocolate wont hurt you! You cant afford to eat this or drink that!?Yes you're right I can but it's my choice,my path,my book, and as you can tell I dont care to be like what your standards are. I have set my own and by no means mine are better than just partying all night and getting wasted on the weekends. We all places that we want to go, and be in life.

Labor Day, the holiday that indicates summer's over is just around the corner. Where has the time gone? Seems like were we just looking forward to the Memorial Holiday and about to kick off summer. The older I get the more I realize time is precious and fleeting. Fact is I feel as though I should be working right now. Throwing caution to the wind, taking a walk on the wild side, here I sit thinking. Thinking about time, goals and the fact I need to get my 'ducks in a row' so to speak. Goals...
Some people are risk takers and some are not. Research shows it's not just a behavour but a personality. Are you a risk taker? It appears that I am although I never would have considered I was. My career in the fitness industry began in 1985 and through the years my personal accomplishments have been extremely rewarding. Recently I decided to 'go for it' and open my own facility. After all, why not? Do I want to always wonder about the 'what if's'? Bam...
Ahhh the glorious Owner title.. A blessing to those who know how to use it and a curse to those who crown themselves too early.I started out on the cursed side for sure! I left the gym I was working for in September of last year without a single client to follow me over to my new company.
I am guilty of this, as many of other trainers are guilty of. Giving the generic reply. You know what I am talking about. When you receive a lead from a prospective client and you have the option to "reuse the last message." DON'T DO IT!!! Giving the generic reply makes you come off as non-genuine and not caring about the clients individual needs. Not everyone wants to have the latest P90x, Cross Fit, Insanity workout. They want to deal with a trainer that understands their needs and is able to provide training that works for them.
