Where Am I NOW in This Health and Fitness Journey?

I Want You to Know How I Lost 80 Lbs...

It started my sophomore year of college. Somehow, I'd managed to avoid the Freshman 15, but I was not so lucky this particular year...

My CrossFit Lifestyle

I am most definitely an example of a person who went from being a lazy, wishful thinker who just wanted to look good for himself to actually having that personally ideal body. The recipe is simple, you just have to work hard to get what you want, and there are no two ways about it! I have dabbled in many training methods to reach my goal, but nothing got me more interested in achieving my goals than CrossFit.

Don't Be That Person...Start Smart!

At a local hockey arena there is a space that folks use for fitness activities. Some days they have martial arts lessons, some days they have kid’s fitness and so on. I usually glance in as I walk past the area…nosey guy that I am, not really giving their activities a second thought but the other night I noticed some type of a bootcamp going on. As a Personal Trainer it peaked my interest to see what they were doing so I stood and watched for several minutes. What I saw nearly made my eyes bleed.

HIIT and Run

So! HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) is all the rage. I would call it outrageous. I just returned from the 2014 IDEA World Fitness Convention, full of motivation and ready to continue helping my clients towards better health and fitness. And one thing is for sure: HIIT will not have any place in my programming. I took two classes; one with a ViPR, the other one with a new machine called CoreStix. Ultimately, the type of device is irrelevant, but the style of training is.

Exercising at Appropriate Intensity

When speaking with clients and potential clients, personal trainers are often asked their opinions about the latest fad in the exercise industry. I can't count how many times I am asked my view on such workouts as P90X, CrossFit, etc. While these are good workout programs that certainly have their place with certain segments of the population, I do not recommend them for beginners or people who have returned to exercise after a long lapse. For these clients, it is important to first master correct posture and form before jumping in to more advanced levels of exercise.

Trends vs. Basics

Tried and true... Old School Training like all types of training that has been around have borrowed from each other. To me it's just taking the best of what works for you and creating a plan that fit's your goals in life.
